Vukovar and Srijem county is situated in the northeastern part of Croatia in the fertile plains of eastern Slavonia and Srijem, in the area between the river Danube and the Sava.
Vukovar and Srijem county has a good geo-political and economic position. The main occupation of the population in here was connected to agriculture and forestry while lately is very important production of shoes and tires in the Borovo factory that was founded by Bata in 1931.
Vukovar has had and still has a rich cultural and historic heritage which remains of settlements, graves, tools and ceramics, found at Vucedol near the river Danube. The most famous is the Vucedol Dove.
This large county suffered during the Patriotic War, mostly Vukovar, the county centre which was completely razed and all cultural and intellectual potential of old rich Vukovar as well,but despite it Vukovar kept his spirit which is visible in the rich cultural life, festivals such as "Vinkovacke jeseni", "Sokacko sijelo", an "Actor's Festival" and "Days of Josip and Ivan Kozarac", the "Wine Harvest" in Ilok and "Konji bijelci" in Babina Greda.
In the area of this county prevail lowlands, vineyards, forests and very mild continental climate that contribute agriculture development. Beside these important facts there are numerous fertile areas and many beautiful rivers like Vuka, Bosut, Berava, Biđ, Studva i Spacva rich with fish, which represent an important part of living here.
