Sisak and Moslavina County

Sisak and Moslavina County, Travel Guide with travel tips for holidays in Sisak and Moslavina County, Croatia

The Sisak and Moslavina county si situated in part of central Croatia south-east of Zagreb and borders with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The parts of this region are the hilly and wooded Banovina and the low-lying Moslavina, the fertile Posavina, Pokuplje and Pounje. It's abundant in fertile land, criss-crossed with brooks and rivers.

This region passed many changes through the past, it was a part of  The County of  Zagreb but in April I6th, 1993. it was established as it is at the present day. In 1997 was slightly changed when Ivanic Grad became part of The County of Zagreb.

Remains of the past are inscribed in the traditional architecture, in the old Podravina house made of oak and other sights of history and culture.

Here you will find natural beauties in the park of nature and natural reservation Lonjsko polje with 236-bird species, of them some 130 nesting birds, some of them on the list of endangered bird species.

The economic basis of the county is diverse, the water potential, forests, vineyards and orchards, thermal springs, navigable rivers, natural preserves and protected natural resources like oil, underground gas, cultivatable land, as well as the richness of flora and fauna. Oil and underground gas as an important part of development, are exploited by the factory of Petrokemija from Kutina, which is the largest producer of artificial fertilizers in Croatia and the Oil refinery in Sisak, with capacities for processing which almost satisfies the needs of Croatia.

Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are produced in the factory Segestica in Sisak, the factory Moslavka in Kutina and also in the factory Moslavačko vinogorje in Voloder.

An important part of the economy is also winegrowing, agriculture and cattle-breeding. The most famous wines are graševina, škrlet, frankovka, rajnski rizling and burgundy.

In the region are also the main spawning basins of  the Sava river, particularly for wild carp.

The area is a very important transport point of Croatia due to its roads, rail-roads and river transport.
